How to fix an air mattress without a patch kit?

It can even be fixed with duct tape, super glue, or even nail polish.

Methods

  • Locating the leak: First, inflate the mattress up to its full capacity and seal the valve as anyone generally does. Then find the puncture in your air mattress by hearing the air leakage sound. There are also alternative ways like spraying a mixture of dish soap and water and locating the foam bubbles.
  • Deflate the mattress completely: Any air left inside may prevent the patch or glue whatever one uses from forming a tight seal, and the puncture will require to be repaired again.
  • Scrub it: If the puncture is on any flocked top part of the air mattress, you need to scrub the part so that the patch can adhere properly.
  • Making a patch kit: the easiest way is to glue a patch to the leaking area. you can use any thin plastic or rubber material for making a patch, for example, a piece of a shower curtain, a pool liner, or a piece of an inner bike tire. Then cut the needed amount of material, Degrease the surface, apply glue according to the instructions, and then hold it for a few minutes.
  • Using superglue: Superglue is helpful when it is used in order to patch a small and thin puncture with two edges that need to adhere together. You can either use superglue as an adhesive for the previous method or just squeeze the glue above the puncture without any patches. One can use stitching motions to apply glue to the leaks or punctures. Use the process at least two times.  Then inflate the air mattress and check it.
  • Get nail polish: Few preparations are required in this method as a UV light source is required to trigger the polymerization reaction in the nail polish but it’s pretty effective. Firstly, sand the area around the hole, then degrease the area by rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, then need to apply a drop of nail polish above the hole or puncture, then turn on the UV light and needs to set it above the nail polish for 15 seconds in order for it to cure. Repeat the process if needed.
  • Marine goop glue: Marine goop glue is a waterproof and UV-resistant glue that can also be used as a sealant. Firstly sand the surface and degrease it, then apply a thin layer of goop glue above the leak, then allow the sealant to cure. Note one must let the sealant dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Use a hot glue gun: Locate the hole in your mattress and mark it, then place the glue stick into the glue gun and turn it on which will allow it to heat up, squeeze the trigger of the gun, and dab a small bob over the puncture area or the hole which will seal it completely, then allow the glue to cool down and then check the quality of the seal by inflating the air mattress.
  • Patch a hole with Duct tape: If one needs to fix a hole in an air mattress without a patch kit and one does not have any adhesive then one can use duct tape. Cut a large enough piece of duct tape in order to cover the puncture and some space around it in order to apply it to the degreased surface.
